The Publican Food Awards 2007

We are proud to announce that The Sandrock has been short-listed for an award at The Publican Food Awards 2007 in the Pub Food Innovation of the Year category for our 'Guest Chef Nights'.

Most of our customers will already know about our Guest Chef Nights but for those of you who haven't heard about them, we ask a regular customer with a passion for food and cooking to come up with menu idea and receipes for a themed food evening. The theme can be any style of cooking (for exmaple Japanese, Game or Morocan) but the guest chef must have experience of cooking meals from their choosen theme.

All of our guest chefs have had experience cooking for friends and family but cooking 10 courses for 45 people is quite different so the planning, preparation and order of the courses is very important. We try to teach the guest chefs which parts of the menu can be prepared in advance and how to send out 450 courses in the space of 3 hours, which is by far the hardest part of the experience.

We have found that because of the diversity of the themes we have learnt new, interesting receipes and every chef has passed on little tricks they have learnt to make the dishes as authentic as possible, so it has been a great learning experience for both the guest chef and us.

Having attended a fantastic awards ceremony at The Hurlingham Club in west London we are incredibly pleased to announce that we won the Pub Food Innovation of the Year award. The judging panel was made up of representatives from The Publican Magazine and category sponsers Heinz. We would like to thank our hosts from Heinz and The Publican for making it a fantastic evening and we are looking forward to being able to return the favour at a guest chef night in the new year, details of which will be annouced soon.

The following article was published in The Publican following the awards ceremony.
